A first website for an independent social work practice

Executive summary

The brief in one paragraph

The client had established an independent social work practice, but had no website or business email. The one-week turnaround kept the brief focused.

  • Services grouped for different audiences
  • Accessible mobile design
  • Privacy-conscious enquiry form
  • Domain and branded business email

One-week turnaround

Live on 1 October 2026.

Business challenge

Trust had to be clear from the first visit

A family looking for support, a solicitor instructing an expert and a local authority seeking consultancy do not arrive with the same questions. The site had to help each visitor find the right service without losing the personal voice of the practice.

The client also needed a business email and a safe first point of contact. A web form should collect enough to begin a conversation, not the confidential details of a person's case.

What we had to solve

  • No website or business email. There was nowhere professional to direct a first enquiry.
  • Three different audiences. Families, legal professionals and organisations needed distinct routes through the same offer.
  • Sensitive work. The form needed a clear warning against sharing confidential case details.
  • A tight brief. The one-week turnaround demanded a focused first version.
Discovery

Starting with the client's own words

The client's own words gave us the starting point for the site's plain, first-person copy. The practice logo guided the colours.

Before the build, the client reviewed a visual mock-up of the whole site. That gave them a chance to approve the direction while the structure and presentation were still easy to change.

Each service has an Enquire about this link that pre-selects its topic in the contact form.

Privacy

A clear boundary

The form asks visitors not to include confidential case details. Enquiries are not stored on the website.

Enquiries are sent securely to the practice inbox.

Protection

Basic safeguards

Spam protection and server-side checks protect the enquiry route.

Handover

Set up to maintain

The domain, a branded mailbox, its setup guide and a maintenance handbook were included.

A small stack with a clear job

The site uses no cookies or analytics. Enquiries are sent securely to the practice inbox and not stored on the website, so the client can reply directly. A clear, first-person privacy notice explains how information is handled.

Quality standards

The safeguards built into the first version

  • Accessible navigation

Visible focus and AA contrast help people find their way through the site.

  • Mobile contact

Large tap targets and a call bar keep contact options close on a phone.

  • Privacy warning

Visitors are asked not to share confidential case details in the form.

  • Enquiry safeguards

Spam protection and server-side checks protect the form.

  • Direct delivery

Enquiries are sent securely to the practice inbox and not stored on the website.

  • Search foundations

Page metadata, structured data, a sitemap and a share image support discovery and previews.

Ready to be found and contacted

Pages live
Five

A clear introduction to the practice and its services.

Enquiries
Direct

Messages arrive in the practice inbox for the client to reply to.

Business email
Branded

A mailbox for professional correspondence.

Handover
Complete

A setup guide and maintenance handbook for future changes.

The site went live on 1 October 2026. The client was very happy with the result after reviewing it, and felt it matched what they wanted. It is too early to claim traffic or enquiry outcomes.

Lessons learned

A first site has to make the next step feel safe

First-person language helps people understand who they will speak to. Separate service paths help very different visitors get to the right place. The contact form deliberately asks for less, so a first conversation can begin without sensitive case details being sent online.

  • Start with the client's own words
  • Group services by what visitors need
  • Pre-select a relevant enquiry topic
  • Keep confidential details out of the form
